One of our customers sent us a message the other day. They had just received an order of our Red Bali kratom, and they noticed that it was a slightly different than a previous order of Red Bali they had received from us. This is a good question, and since we know a lot of people are just being introduced to kratom, we thought it would be nice for us to dedicate a blog post to an in-depth explanation about the search for consistency in kratom.
The first thing to consider is that kratom is a plant. It is grown in different places, in different climates and with different growing conditions. When kratom is harvested, only the leaves are removed from the trees, so kratom is harvested year round. All of these factors lead to wide variation in kratom regardless of the source, from the visual appearance right through to the effects.
Next, it is important to identify how your kratom is being grown. There is no doubt that modern agricultural methods – mass farming, chemical treatments – can produce a more consistent product. When we were introduced to kratom, one of the appeals was that it was a natural solution and it was important to us to find kratom coming from growers who use organic methods. Health and safety are important to us, and we are proud of the fact that we do not source kratom that has been grown with the use of pesticides.
We have partnerships with growers in Indonesia, one of the best places to grow kratom in the world. The water surrounding Indonesia is warm, which leads to relatively stable temperatures year round. It has two seasons – a dry season from May to October that gives way to heavy rains until March. April is a bit of a transitory month. Often kratom around summer time offers higher alkaloid contents.
Our kratom comes from jungle trees that have been left to their own devices for many seasons. Each tree has a unique alkaloid profile and we bring in fresh kratom on a regular basis, which means there is going to be some natural variation with each strain across the year.
As the seasons and batches change, there are some tactics you can use that will help you to enjoy your experience:
- Take detailed notes on strains – dosage, effects.
- When the seasonal changes roll around, compare these notes to determine the characteristics of your kratom.
- Sample new batches. We are always happy to add a sample into your order, so feel free to request any strain in particular you would like to try. Also feel free to check in about where we are with our stock. Our staff uses kratom themselves and often has a great deal of insight into our current batches.
- Order large quantities when you find kratom you like. If you find a particular batch works really well for you, it might be a good idea to stock up. As long as you store your kratom in a cool dry place, away from exposure to light, it will keep for 6-24 months. We are happy to offer bulk pricing as well.
